I joined VIB in 2013 as an expert scientist and was promoted to group leader in 2015.
Between 2018 and 2020 I set up a cryo-EM facility on the basis of the JEOL cryoARM300 electron microscope which is today being successfully used by many members of the department and Belgian community of structural biologists.

Today focus of my laboratory is on structural studies of biological molecular machines and the development of cryo-EM sample preparation methods using microfluidics.
I obtained Ph.D. in 2005 from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Research Center Jülich. After a postdoc in X-ray crystallography at Mitochondrial Biology Unit of MRC (Cambridge, UK) and Humboldt fellowship at Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology (Dortmund, Germany), I joined VIB.
